Component Production


Production is the final phase of a component creation. This section is found in PRODUCTS > View Products, on the left side of the Product Details page.

Click the Production link in the Components box.



The Component Production page appears. In this window you set the settings for the final phase of your component. There are five category fields: Paper, Batch Properties, File Template, Auto Send To Device, and Batch Imposition.



1. Paper


This section is used purely for reporting purposes and will not physically affect your component. Select a paper stock from the drop-down. Paper stocks are created and edited in CONFIGURATION > Substrates.



You may also add a new paper stock. Click Add Paper Stock below the drop-down.



Fill in the Name and Code fields and click Add Paper.



The paper stock will now appear in the drop-down, as well as under the Substrates list.

2. Batch Properties


The first step to setting up your batch properties is determining the desired block size. Setting a block size allows the press/finishing equipment to process a batch without overloading. Fill in the Copies field, or leave the default set to 50.

 


You may add additional parameters for your block size. Click Add New... below the Block Size label.



You are prompted to select Pages or Jobs.



You may add both Pages and Jobs, and specify the limits in their respective fields. You can delete the parameters by clicking x below the fields. Note that the system will set the limit based on the first parameters limit that is reached.

The Greensheet Template field allows you to choose from a list of greensheet templates available in your account (found in SETUP > SYSTEM > Templates). This template determines the look and information of the greensheet that accompanies your component through the production process.



The Press Template field populates with standard_template by default. You may change this if you like, but this field cannot be left blank.

3. File Template


Select a JDF Template from the drop-down (JDF stands for "job definition format" and defines the orders and functions sent to a printer or press). Templates are set up and edited in SETUP > SYSTEM > Templates.



The File Name Template field allows you to create a template for the file name that will be sent from your SIte Flow account to the device to be printed/pressed. Click the grey field.



The Component Filename Template appears.



The left column displays two categories of Site Flow's handlebar fields: Function and Data. Select a category underneath a header to make the full list of handlebars in that category appear in a new column to the right (see #1). Make a selection (see #2) to see it appear in the Preview pane on the right side of the window, and click Insert (see #3). The handlebar now appears at the top of the screen (see #4).



Repeat this process until you are satisfied with the title template. You may test this template by clicking Show Test below the categories.



The test area appears. Copy and paste the template code into the JSON Data field (see #1) to see the result in the Output field below it (see #2).

When you are satisfied with the template code, click OK to return to the Production window.

4. Auto Send To Device

The Auto Send To Device option is useful in the instance that you would like to send the job to the device early so that it may automatically begin the image rasterization process (called 'ripping'). This insures a faster output. Select the device to automatically send to in the drop-down.

5. Batch Imposition


The Batch Imposition field determines the imposition template to be used for your product. Imposition templates are defined in CONFIGURATION > Imposition. This will be the primary imposition template and it will be used the majority of the time.



Alternately, the Alternative Impositions field allows you to select a backup template, in case the device running the first template is unavailable.
